Saharan Silver Gofed Pendant Earrings.

Tuareg men are known as "The Blue Men of the Sahara", as part of this North African culture involves men donning a blue veil at age 25. Although Islam is practiced by the people, they retain much of their indigenous culture; descent and inheritance come from the maternal line.

An interesting custom is the Tam Tam Dance, where men on camel circle the women while they play drums and chat. Gofed pendants play a significant role in the culture, as they identify the person wearing them. In the village of Gofed, they were given to a young man upon reaching adulthood.

Teardrop shape. Handcrafted and engraved with traditional signs and symbols.
Approximately 2" X 1" inch. Silver alloy.

Made in Niger.
