Collection: The Ashanti + Krobo Collection

The Ashanti of southern Ghana are a major ethnic group of the Akan people. They have a rich history and have been known as fierce warriors. Ashanti is the center of Ghana and historically, these Akan people were rich in gold, hence Ghana previously being called the Gold Coast. They are known for their expertise in weaving, wood carving, ceramics, pottery and are skilled in other areas. Thus was formed the basis of their trade and their importance in West African economics.  Our pieces embody the spirit of the Ashanti, their history and their immense pride of love of their country. 

Krobo beads are usually made in West Africa, especially in Ghana. The history of both the Ashanti and Krobo making these beads goes back to the 1900s. Krobo beads are created from powder glass that comes from ground glass. These beautiful works are typically made from recycled and reused scrap glasses or broken glass bottles.
