Kitana Brown Comb Earrings.

Combs occupy an important part in both traditional African culture and African American culture, from the time of slavery to the present. Not only do they signify the importance of the African woman as the original standard of beauty, but they also reinforce the grooming and beautification rituals among men and women.

Particularly in times of slavery, when resources were scarce, throughout Reconstruction and even modern day, the comb signifies Black people's attempts -- particularly womens' -- attempts to hold on not only to their beauty, but their culture and dignity. Most importantly, it represents a direct connection between African people and their hair, which especially when worn in its most natural state, is a representation of strength, heritage and culture.

These unique bone comb earrings feature an Afro pic design, with a white circle etched into the bone. The hook sits atop a drop encircled with gold and a bead.

Approximately 3.25" in length.

Made in Kenya.
