Berber Silver Cross of Agadez Earrings .
These are handcrafted Berber Silver Cross of Agadez Earrings. The Tuareg are North & West African Berber people typically inhabiting the Sahara Desert including Algeria, Morocco, Mali, Libya, Niger and Burkina Faso and as far south as Northern Nigeria. Of the Tuareg people, the greatest majority live in Niger. They are traditionally nomadic pastoralists and are skilled craftsmen, producing exquisite jewelry.
These silver earrings feature the Cross of Agadez. Tradition has it that throughout Africa there are many versions of crosses, which typically identify the town of origin. It is thought that these crosses precede the advent of Islam in North and West Africa. The Tuareg traded in luxury items and as skilled craftsmen, their beautiful creations were introduced to the rest of the world.
Today, these Berbers make beautiful jewelry with silver alloys, consisting of silver and other metals such as copper, brass and bronze. Approximately 2" X .5" inch.
